REAL MADRID FALL TO LEVANTE DESPITE ENDING GOAL DROUGHTIyiolastrings
Los Blancos were looking to put an end to their dreadful start to the season when they hosted Levante at the Santiago Bernabeu, but their woeful performance screamed otherwise.
The Real Madrid team had uncharacteristically failed to score in their last three matches conceding to every opponent they’d played. Questions had quickly arisen about Head Coach, Julen Lopetegui, and if he had what it takes to manage such a top team like Real Madrid.
The team started the match in high spirits, eager to put an end to the bad spell with starters like Marcelo and Isco back among the bunch. But things quickly went south when Levante skipper, Morales slotted in a long ball after dreadful defending by Raphaèl Varane in the 6th minute. But things were to get even further sour for the home team. Barely 6 minutes later, CB, Varane was found wanting again when a ball hit his hand inside his box. Roger calmly dispatched the ball when a penalty was awarded. The Los Blancos had still not scored a goal.
This dragged on far into the 2nd half and when in the 56th minute, Madrid had refused to score a goal, a record was set by the team. It was the longest time a Madrid squad had not found the net spanning over 8 hours of playing time. However, things started to look up for Real Madrid after Marcelo unleashed a screamer after good work by substitute, Karim Benzema. But things were not to go Madrid’s way as the Levante’s defence neutralised wave after wave of Madrid attack.
The game ended 1-2 in favour of Levante and Real Madrid once again, failed to take the spot at the top of the La Liga table. After this obvious disaster, questions will once again arise about Julen Lopetegui and with the Classico and red-hot Barcelona lurking, it is ever obvious that something isn’t right with Real Madrid.
